At the heart of Maker’s Mosaics is Rylee’s intention to make beautiful clay mosaics that are handcrafted and one-of-a-kind.
These “Clay-saics” are unique because:
The entire piece begins as a bag of clay, instead of being cut from glass or tile.
Rylee customizes the design to have symbolism and meaning to your personal story or favorite things.
It is 100% unique as each design and glaze is chosen specifically for you.
Rylee’s background in math contributes a preciseness and thorough attention to detail.
The Maker: Rylee Sturgeon
A down to earth, math-minded maker who loves getting swept up in the process of creating a clay-saic. It’s not work, it’s a meditative experience.
Rylee is a math-minded maker who has collected inspiration from her background in accounting to living in big cities and small towns all over the United States. She is now based in the Phoenix metropolitan area and shares her clay-saics with clients in the east valley and the surrounding area. Arizona has always been the place that ignited her artistic passion the most though, as it is where she first learned to work with clay and ceramics. She began with clay figurines but was quickly ready to take on bigger projects. Rylee bought her first big bag of clay and her love affair with ceramics took off! She made fountains with lucky bamboo as her signature touch to add meaning and many other creations that sold at art shows across the valley. Soon after, she opened her own studio and taught classes on ceramics and working with clay until she moved to Washington.
Seeing one of her clay students become an accomplished mosaics artist inspired Rylee to take on another creative challenge: How to combine her clay work with mosaics. Rylee began with her “family tree” clay-saic in her backyard as well as smaller mediums, and with that, Maker’s Mosaics was born!
The Timeline For Your Custom Handmade Mosaic
For a 10 square foot design (5’x5’) with average-sized tiles, a minimum of four meetings are required with the total time from first meeting to completion to be about two months. (For each additional square foot, add one to two days to this estimate.) The time frame can shift either way due to various reasons, but always with notice and good communication.
